Gracious Goa!!

It’s always a pleasure when your better half says, “Let’s take a short Vacation!!!”

Double the pleasure when it’s going to be Goa!!! This time the fun was going to be triple fold coz in between our short break was going to be our reunion with some old friends!!! SO we packed our bags and were off on our vacation!

We generally start early morning, so by lunch time we are there. We reached the Estrela do mar beach resort in time for lunch at their fine dine which is a beautiful, very earthy and rejuvenating ambiance. After a full tummy we took a short nap and were off to the beach by 4pm. Once on the beach you really tend to leave behind all your worries in life behind. Away from the concrete jungle it’s just so stress free. We spent the whole evening at the beach and dined at one of the outlets near the beach; and sat there till late just listening to the waters talking. WE retired to our cozy full of warmth Swiss cottage. Done up in wood and facing the garden it gives you a different feel of suddenly being away from the waters. Early next morning we set off on a walk at the beach; barefoot the feel of sand soaks you in its soft feel to give your day a refreshing start. We then enjoyed a lavish breakfast at the beach side shack and were all set to pass the day at the beach and visit a church nearby. A day in Goa whether lazy or busy just passes by peacefully. Sea food delights or vegetarian cuisine it’s all right there. The main reason we selected the Estrela – do – mar- beach – resort is because it gives an easy access to the golden corridor as called between the Baga and the Calangute beach. So while you are really close to all the hustle bustle of the area you get open and less crowded beach to enjoy the serenity. Four days of our break were already up.

Well no worries we still had 3 more to go and that was going to be a blast. One day we went to a friend in Panaji to spend a day with them; for which very courteously our concierge desk at the resort helped us with a cab. The next day we were at the Grand Hyatt Goa  for the full day! This was a day we all looked forward to; simple it was our Reunion day!!! A reunion in Goa and that to at the Grand Hyatt! OMG! Some of our friends were booked into the hotel which gave us a chance to enjoy their luxurious rooms. Oh right from the entrance to the lobby to the water bodies and not to forget the area specially done up for kids it the just grand! One full day at this place just gave us a royal feel. Right from a lavish breakfast to lunch to activities up until evening we freaked out at this majestic hotel. Finally after so much activity in a banquet there booked by us we headed to the Calangute beach to spend the evening before returning to the hotel for another round of lavish Dinner!!Beach with 12 of your other friends is a blast, trust me! Oh my my! We just went berserk; playing, running, chit chatting, running laughing; an evening full of fun with your buddies, what else does one ask for? Having met after a long time we had a lot to discuss and exchange over dinner, after a dance session in our banquet.Overall a refreshing day; an exciting end to a Vacation.

A Travel Guide to Phuket

The beautiful Phuket island is a great destination with something for everyone. Whether you want to party or relax, the beaches of Phuket are waiting for you.

A Travel Guide to Phuket

Where is Phuket? Phuket is both the name of the largest island in Thailand and the name of the province in which it is located. Along with the large Phuket island, the province of Phuket contains 32 smaller islands off the coast in the Andaman Sea.

Phuket island and the smaller islands are popular with tourists. They are most notable for their gorgeous beaches, popular resorts, and the variety of options available for dining and entertainment.

If you are thinking of planning a trip to Phuket island, then use the following travel guide.

Planning Your Trip to Phuket

Whenever you go on a trip, there are a few essential decisions to make. This occurs both before and during your trip. You need to find accommodations, dining, shopping, and entertainment. First, you will need to determine what part of Phuket you wish to visit.

Regions of Phuket Island

Typically, when someone says they are planning a trip to Phuket, they are actually referring to the large Phuket island. Some of the smaller islands contain resorts and cabins, but tourists tend to flock to the main island.

The most populated region is the western half of the island. All along the western coast, you will find resort towns and villages. You will also find a variety of beaches. Some of these beaches are relatively untouched while others have definitely been altered due to the influx of tourists.

Along the Southeastern coast of Phuket island, there are a few other beaches worth checking out. This includes some of the areas near Chalong Bay, which is where you will want to go if you want to take a trip to the nearby Phi Phi island.

You can arrive in Phuket either by traveling across the land bridge that connects the island to the mainland or by plane. Phuket Airport is located in the northern section of the island and will give you quick access to the more popular beaches.

Deciding on the Right Time of the Year

When should you travel to Phuket? Throughout most of the year, Phuket island is hot and humid. Though, the hot season is typically considered to last from March to the first part of May. Then, the monsoon season starts. This lasts until October.

The most “pleasant” time of the year is between November and February. This is considered the cool season in Phuket island.

Getting Around the Island

Once you arrive in Phuket, you will need a way to get around. If you are staying at a hotel, you will probably have access to a shuttle service. This should take you from the airport to the hotel and to other popular destinations. Otherwise, you will need to rely on taxis and tuk-tuks.

If you decide to take private transportation, such as a taxi, you should always negotiate a price beforehand. The drivers often have no meter and are notorious for charging high rates. The average cost for a short trip within the same town is about 40 Baht.

If you are lucky enough to find a metered taxi, then you should not have to worry about price negotiations. But, these taxis are more difficult to find.

Once you get to your destination, you should be able to walk to the majority of the spots that you want to check out. For example, if you are staying at a resort a hotel, you will likely be within walking distance of various restaurants, bars, and markets.

Top Destinations and Activities

After settling in at your hotel or resort, you need to find ways to fill your time. While you should definitely check out the local markets and restaurants for souvenirs and food, there are a few notable locations worth visiting.

Big Buddha

Located at the top of the Naka Kerd Mountain is the Big Buddha statue. This massive white marble statue peers out over the east coast of Phuket.

Phuket Butterfly Garden

The Phuket Butterfly Garden offers fun for the whole family. Along with butterflies, you can view a wide variety of insects and creepy, crawly critters.

Prom Thep Cape

Prom Thep Cape is one of the top destinations in Phuket island. This cape offers stunning views of high cliffs and beautiful beaches. If you arrive in the evening, you will be treated with dramatic sunsets.

Paradise Beach

If you like to party, you will want to visit Paradise Beach. This is the site of the biggest beach party on the island. Large festivals are held throughout the year.

Start Preparing for Your Trip to Phuket

These are just a few suggestions for your trip to Phuket. Once you actually get to the island, you should explore everything within walking distance. Check out all the food stalls, markets, and restaurants in your immediate area before exploring other parts of the island.

It is also a good idea to plan one or two landmarks that you would like to visit each day. You can then plan your trip around these excursions. Wherever you go, you should have no problem finding a place to grab a bite to eat or a place to sit and relax for a few minutes.

As a final tip – do not forget to check out local water activities, such as diving, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and parasailing.
